Indian Women's Hockey Triumph 2-1 Against Ireland in 5 Nations Tournament
The Indian Women's Hockey Team concluded their participation in the 5 Nations Tournament Valencia 2023 with a 2-1 victory over Ireland. Deepika found the net in the 4th minute, and Sangita Kumari scored in the 22nd minute for India, while Captain Kathryn Mullan scored the lone goal for Ireland in the 12th minute.
Taking an assertive stance from the beginning, India initiated the game with Deepika seamlessly placing the ball into the net, securing an early lead in the first quarter. However, Ireland remained undeterred by India's early dominance; instead, they regrouped and swiftly leveled the score with a goal from their Captain, Kathryn Mullan, shortly thereafter.
During the second quarter, Ireland aimed to seize the lead by securing two consecutive penalty corners, yet the Indian team demonstrated unwavering resolve in their defensive efforts. In a turnaround, the Indian Women's Hockey Team earned a penalty corner of their own, and it was Sangita Kumari who stepped up to convert, propelling her team back into the lead just before the halftime break.
The third quarter saw both teams earn a penalty corner each but they both failed to capitalise on them and the scoreline remained 2-1 in India’s favour heading into the fourth quarter. Ireland pushed for an equalizer in the last quarter, pegging India back into their half and earning three penalty corners. However, the Indian defence rose to the occasion, saving all attempts and ensuring that they walked away as the winners.
